Job Description – Bus Driver Apple Orchard & Jacksonville SUMMARY: The position of Bus Driver for the Head Start program is responsible for maintaining compliance and safety in transporting children to and from the Head Start program daily. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Signs in/out daily when arriving and departing any Springfield Urban League location. Must utilize ADP Payroll Software for the inputting of time entries for payroll. Driver is responsible for the entries and updates to the routes in Child Plus. The driver shall not leave the bus unattended at any time while transporting children. Pick up children on time and deliver them to designated areas in a safe and efficient manner. Return children to their homes at the end of the day. Responsible for ensuring that each child is safely taken across any street crossing by the bus monitor, as needed. Transport children to the centers or prearranged locations such as field trips. Make certain good order is maintained in the vehicle for the safety of the children. Ensure that the bus is never over capacity at any time. This also includes ensuring the staff to student ratio is in compliance. At all times, there is always one monitor on the bus when transporting students. Timely daily arrival at center-based locations and family day activities. The bus shall always be maintained in excellent condition including the interior and exterior of the unit. The bus is inspected daily by the driver for mechanical or other flaws utilizing the State of Illinois Department of Transportation check-off sheets. Bus maintenance is completed as requested by the Transportation Manager and mechanic. Must attend in-service training and workshops at request of the Transportation Manager. Drivers must not smoke or allow smoking, drink, or allow drinking on the bus at any time. No food is allowed on the bus. We're seeking fresh CDL drivers who have never driven before. You must pass all background checks as well as DOT testing. Applicants must also have a DMV record that is relatively clean. There have been no suspensions in the last year. You must be at least 21 years old to participate. You must be willing to go out with a trainer for 30 days straight across the country during your first month. The goal is to develop your experience and confidence so that you can become a good, safe driver. For the first 30 days, you'll get paid $800.00 per week. After training, your weekly compensation rises to $1000 to $1500 on average. For example, some dollar shop runs pay $1400 a week on average. Following training, you will meet with your terminal manager to select a run. We offer Dedicated, Regional, and OTR employment available once you've completed your 30-day training. Weekly or OTR every 10-14 days, these runs will get you home. There are a "few" local jobs as well.
